All Texas residents are eligible to receive a free HPL library card; Texans outside of Houston city limits usually get a "computer use resident card" which allows database access only. Patrons may print the application and mail it with a photocopy of their valid state ID or driver's license to: Houston Public Library, PowerCard Application, Circulation, 500 McKinney, Houston 77002.
Unfortunately this information is not included on the Library Card and Library Card FAQ pages. Therefore it is very important for RR staff to know that patrons can get a library card by mail. We have received too many calls and chats where patrons were told otherwise.
